Cursico snarled, curling further into his ball, white fur bristling every which way, looking much like a living carpet. The sympathysing woman eventually left the wolf where he lay in his cage. As soon as she was gone, Cursico lifted his head from behind his tail, narrowed yellow eyes watching her retreating back with an expression of dark triumph. All so pathetic. None of these beings deserve to be anything more than my prey. A one on one and I could tear their guts, feel their flesh. If only they would come close, if they were a little more stupid they would. Just a little more. His triumph turned into a twisted scowl of hate, that made another passer by look at him curiously for a moment before arrogantly strolling off. Infuriated by the mans calm, Cursico threw himself at the bars for the eightieth time in that day, snarls bringing him to hurry his stride but otherwise no glance back and no fear. His cage was dusty, and filthy after him spending so much time in it. No one was going to clean him when they had a good chance of loosing any limb which entered the cage. Food and water was even slid through a flap on the floor. Cursico paced the cage, its size meaning he could only go a few strides before having to turn and pace the other way. All of them should suffer as I have. I curse them, curse them all! May the fires of hell singe their flesh forever more. One day I will destroy them, I do not care what happens after, all I want is their blood on my paws. But for that I have to get a chance, maybe I should be nice. Nice people buy nice slaves, after that I can be free to kill as I choose. A shimmer ran along his spine, there was a sound of snapping bones and tearing flesh until a tall boy-man was pacing in the cage instead of a wolf. The decision to be nice had been made alot, and never had he had the lack-of-pride to carry it through. Something annoyed him and he'd show his hostile nature. But another try couldn't hurt, and after a minute of wearing his energy down in the small cage, Cursico sat in the corner, curled his knees up to his chest and put on a 'hopeless young boy' look, ready for the next person who would pass by.

Why am I here? Thoughts pondered in her head as she walked among the others- gifted and human alike. She felt inferior and small among the others here. Those humans like her who acted all high and mightily –a scowl passed on her face at the thought- and those who had powers, gifted, The Gifted. Why she would feel inferior to the Gifted when they were treated like dirt? Well, she thought outside the box as one would say, being open-minded. She was an intelligent and mature girl, not snooty and spoiled as others were.
Why they were not ruling over humans now was unknown to her. However, she did not want to think about that right now since she would not want to be treated the way they were, a bit selfish yes, but ‘tis not a perfect world. She winced as she paced by the cages, seeing the poor Gifted throwing themselves against the bars. A particular sight caught her eye as a wolf slammed itself against the cage. Don’t! screamed in her mind as she watched him, her eyes wide. A quick glance around and she headed towards the cage.
She made her way over, having to push her way through taller adults to get towards the wolf. Once there however, she stopped at the sight. There was no wolf- a boy instead sat in the corner of the cage in place. She stepped back and glanced around again in confusion, but insisted to herself that she was at the right cage. Slowly and a bit hesitant, she walked up. At the bars, she glanced around yet again- so unsure of herself. Chewing her bottom lip on the inside a bit, she turned back to the boy and downcast her eyes before looking back up at him.
”You were that wolf that threw itself against the bars a little bit ago, were you not?” Her voice was soft and almost shaken as she asked the question; it was meant to be gentle. She downcast her eyes, already knowing the answer to the one she was about to slip out, ”Why?”

Cursico sidled his eyes to her, purposely taking a while to do it to stop himself from growling at her and seeing if she was close enough to grab. Even taking time he still had to dig his nails into the palms of his hands and concentrate to stop himself from doing what came naturally. Oh, she's not very confident now is she? I'd like to see how confident she looks with her throat torn out! Still, its a perfect chance, gotta be a 'good boy' or else she might as well be as arrogant as that man. Maybe I won't kill her for being less of a whelp than the rest... Maybe. His eyes narrowed briefly, before he caught himself and they went back into wide innocence. "Yeah, som' man pok'd me and it hurt." Cursico whined, shuffling his feet as if he had also been hurt emotionally. "I wasn't even doin' nothing bad." It felt degrading to speak so, but acting like an idiot could help him, who didn't want to take a nice dim idiot under their wings? Cursico shuffled closer to the bars, giving Kayla a look of blank interest. "You look prettier than the others. Whys that?" Morphing back into a wolf, he tilted his head inquiringly. A wolf was much less expressive, at least as far as humans tended to understand, to a human his bared teeth would resemble a smile; not his disgust at calling any damn human pretty, even if he'd said it to another wolf he'd want to hit himself over the head with a frying pan. He stretched his muzzle towards the cage bars, yellow eyes stuck fixatedly on Kayla. Cursico hoped she didn't understand stares as a dominance challenge either. Considering she kept looking down he doubted as much.

Talking to her right caught her attention for a moment as she glanced over her shoulder. Frowning, she stepped to the left as a burly man roughly stepped up to the cage. However, apparently she did not step away fast enough as she rather ended up getting shoved. The angle put her left side against the bars- the impact enough to hurt- before she pushed herself off so she was not leaning on the cage. She glared up at the side of the man’s head. ’Stupid head’ she thought rudely, knowing quite well how childish that sounded in her head and believe it or not, a small smile slipped past her scowl.
A few minutes later and the male had grunted before moving away and on to the next poor soul. All the while she did not pay much attention to the boy, only glancing to her right at the people around her, and the man studying the boy. She cringed and glanced around at the other female Gifted. She would hate that, someone staring at her like a piece of meat at the market. A shiver passed down her spine at the thought. Her brown eyes gazed back at the boy a short while after the man left.
When his voice reached her ears, her gaze narrowed as if focusing on something far away. His speech was not right- for someone looking his age. Yet, feigning innocence as much as he, she let her eyes show concern for the ‘poor boy’. His other comment though sent her a bit off guard, watching as he scooted closer. An almost rose hint touched her cheeks and she bowed her head down –her hair covering her face- and stepped back one step.
She looked up to see his arctic wolf form. Curiosity passed on her face as his teeth were viewed. She knew far well that dogs did not smile and neither did wolves. However, she did her best not to let her perceptiveness show. His muzzle moved towards the bars and her hand almost reached out- almost. Her hand was close to the base of the bar before she pulled it back and shared her own inquisitive façade to wonder if he noticed she had almost reached out to him. A small grin passed her lips- an innocent looking one that could be perceived as looking at a cute, fluffy, dog-like creature. How little did they know the thoughts swirling around that head.
An intelligent girl and smart one at that… Many books have touched her hands, especially those about wolf and dog behavior since she had to do a report in biology about animal behaviors. Those yellow eyes looked straight towards her and she returned the gaze. Hers feigned awe, curiosity, and sympathy, before behind it came the all too knowing challenge. She knew he was challenging her and not once did she blink or look away. Intimidation yes, not to be expected from her, but really…. With a teenager talking like he did before- what was there really to fear if she kept her distance and watched herself. Gottcha there, buddy, a small smile graced her lips.
((Yikes, sorry for such a long post... my muse ran wild near the end.))

The wolf's eyes narrowed just a fraction more when she stared back. The fur bridled over his shoulders rippled as he crouched lower to the ground, taking care to keep his ears forward. A funny thing he had noticed, when people pushed his head, ears or tail down they sparked the same emotion they could show. To hold up the tail of a shy dog would make it more confident, and vice versa. So he raised his tail, even forcing himself to wag it, and made sure he didn't allow himself to slip into a hunters crouch; not easy as all his instincts begged him to try and reach her. He rested one thick paw against the bar, the claws he'd tried to keep sharp so long ago had been filed down into practically useless blunts. They would have done the same with his teeth if they then wouldn't have to go through the trouble of mulching his food down so he could eat it. Little girls everywhere and not a bite to eat! My, my, I never thought such a whelp could stare without blinking for so long... Wait a minute, then she must know what it means. Ugh, not even ten minutes and I'm already messing it up. It makes me wonder though... In a fluid- if noisy- change, a ginger teenager was then crouched on the floor with one hand against the bars. It was almost impossible to speak as a wolf, and the effort really wasn't worth it when he could flick between forms however he chose- with clothes included. Why his clothes changed when he did was peculiar, the thicker clothes he wore as a human, the thicker his wolf's fur. "Aren'chou gonna answur?" He asked in a quiet voice, turning his now green eyes away. While he would have loved to stare her out, that didn't go with his act, which didn't look like it was working well anyway. "B-but, its okay if ya don't." Cursico hurriedly added on like he was forgetting himself, and shame-facedly moved further away from the bars, hiding his face behind his knees. Just like all the rest. 'Oh look! It turns into a creature more powerful than me! Lets all stare at it and destroy its life.' I never had a life even before I was caught... I get to blame my mother for that. Instead of teaching me to hide my skill she locked me in her goddamn basement! Not that I ever want their life, just not this one.

This creature- Gifted per-say was different. It seemed like innocence on the outside at points in time and the feverish wolf wanting her blood just lurking beneath the corner… Sighing sadly, she crossed her arms over her torso, a small barrier between the cage and herself or the wolf and herself. She looked away finally and watched as his tail rose. Dominance?’ It was a question yes, or could it be the playful behavior when their tail is up and the front body lower to the ground? Oh and now his tail is wagging. Might as well play along.
When his paw rested against the bar, she watched herself as she gently reached out to softly touch the fur lightly. Carefully, she stroked the fine hairs around his paw wondering if it would tickle him when she stroked backwards like it did when she had a dog growing up. Another smile graced her lips at that, but she stopped not wanting to annoy him too much and gently stroked the fine hairs in the way they grow. Yet, she took her hand away worried that he would be able to reach her hand and snap at it.
Soon the wolf changed back to the boy and her gaze wavered. He asked if she was going to answer. She could just say she did not know or thank you, but she left it blank for now until he spoke again. Earlier she caught a glimpse of his eyes before he turned away. They were green while in wolf form they were yellow. Instead of answering him when he turned away, she decided to just talk to him instead. ”Why do you act innocent when those your age are in their defiant stages? Little kids I can see being terrified and acting the way you do, but you- a teenager like myself have their own minds and want to make their own decisions.” A bit accusing almost, but she was curious.
A moment of silence past before she spoke again. ”Hey…” it began softly, trying to get his attention, ”what’s your name?” She figured she needed to lighten the mood before after almost accusing him earlier. It was merely an assumption- something all Gifted and Humans do- they assume something from time to time. Wanting to show she was not going to ‘poke’ him, she placed the very tips of her fingers trough the bars. She would trust him a bit just this once. If she could offer him a place to stay where he would not be beaten or have anything done brutal to him, he needed to trust her and vice versa. ”You can trust me here, I won’t hurt you, just… Just don’t hurt me.”

If only you knew what I was like as a little kid. I wonder how much more I'll hate humans when I'm no longer a teenager. Oh, maybe I'll go rabid. At some point these guys will probably stop bothering trying to sell me, maybe then they'll stop feeding me, or hang me in front of a large crowd. If I don't escape, I want to die how I lived, none of that pansy crying and begging. I'll never beg! He grinned to himself, hidden behind his knees. Even thoughts of his own death made his skin tingle with excitement. "Y'see, I don' age lyke you guys. Cuz I's 'alf wolf." Cursico slurred, the answer coming out smoothly, with a practised tone. A few people had believed him before, it was perfectly plausible he aged at the same rate as a wolf, only a Slaver could tell for sure otherwise. They had all the documents about him. Another thing he wanted to destroy. Slowly, almost shyly he allowed himself to look over his knees at Kayla, "They say I's ten or som'thin'." He offered a smile, although it almost twisted into a smirk. "I's Cursico Jake Sleath, Curry for short. Cause the korma curry is yummy." Sleath licked his lips, he liked curry alot. The few times his dreams weren't filled with blood, they were filled with food. "I'd never hurt ya, not s'long as you don' be mean." The teenager leant forward slightly, fingers hovering a centimeter away from the womans, before he seemed to lose his nerve and drew them back, a supressed shiver sending ice down his spine. I could get you now... maybe take an arm. It'll certainly make this day more interesting. But I shouldn't, I really shouldn't, I'll never get out of here if I keep trying to eat these pathetic low-lifes. At least she hasn't wandered off already, and is even being foolish enough to talk about trust to me! Ha, Me!

His voice reached her ears and they locked on the sound since previously she had been looking to her right again at the other people. A few times few would glance towards her and the cage next to her that contained the werewolf. She felt like frowning at those times, but decided against it and left her gaze blank. Sighing, she looked down and shuffled her feet, her loose and worn blue jeans creating the small ruffling sound. Yet, her attention wondered to the boy again. He spoke at the time and she listened intently- oh did she ever.
Her eyes narrowed as he finished saying he was ‘ten or something’, a glare directed right towards him. Idiot! Her mind screamed at him. She removed her glare into an ‘oh yeah?’ look before she chuckled- which could be preserved as a harmless laugh. Wolves matured fast and reached maturity at age two or three she was not stupid. ”Oh really? I thought wolves reach maturity at around age two or three now, eh Cursico?” she supplied, after letting him speak his name. However, not being mad, she just smiled. He was desperate to get out of here and she knew that.
He spoke again and she glanced down as his fingers moved toward hers. Her reaction a moment later was to move her hand forward when he pulled back before she pulled her own back. So close. So close to reaching out to him in both senses of the matter. Carefully, she placed her hand on the bar before choosing her words. ”You want out of here don’t you? You want to be free of this cage and you want to be free.” Almost a taunt, but perhaps she could capture his interest and in turn she could work that into something more.
She wanted to help him yes, but she needed him to calm down. Murderous thoughts and hatred probably coursed through his veins of what the humans had done to him. ”Damnit.” It worked passed her lips in frustration before she could stop it in a mumbled and slurred curse. Her face flushed then as she brought her head back up to look at him, a bit embarrassed for that little slip up. Oops. But then again, he probably did not care.

Cursico was growing restless, if he hadn't been before. He'd never been a very patient creature, nor one who was good with emotions. If he had the choice, he would have fought his way out physically rather than being nice or any other such thing. There was a place deep inside him that yearned for contact, but he wasn't aware of it, neither would he give that part a voice if he was. "Wolves do, but I'm human too, it means that its a mix between the two, which can easily fall around ten." Cursico replied tensely, forgetting to dim his language down. Once he realised, he scrunched up his face and cursed. Sleath moved into a crouching position again, with both his hands placed flat on the ground, lips curling up over his teeth. Do I want to be free!? Why doesn't she ask the sky if its blue, or an apple if its a fruit? Could any of these pests really delude themselves that anyone with a bar-code on their neck actually prefers slavery to freedom? They must teach it in schools, society just loves to make wrong things seem right so long as it benefits them Almost spitting his words, Cursico replied: "If I was here willingly, then a couple of families would still have their husbands and fathers. Plus one wife and mother." A malignant smirk spreading over his face in memory of their deaths. "Cute little wolfy, all they wanted to do was show me the kindness you are now. But oh dear, they're six feet under, or at least some of them is." Cursico chuckled as if he had just told a great joke, his laugh having a slightly hysterical edge to it. All his pent up rage he'd kept in check from meeting Kayla that short while ago was bubbling over uncontrollably. "Stupid humans, You'll pay, you'll see! You'll all PAY!" From his crouch, a wolf threw itself at the bars, just like he had before for that annoying man, a hatefilled howl tearing out from his throat. Talk of freedom had certainly gotten his attention, but certainly not the good kind; Cursico couldn't take how he was shackled, being reminded of it brought his bitterness back in fresh waves.

A grin made its way to those lips, showing teeth as his language returned to normal. Finally!’ she all but screamed. It just was so much easier to talk to him when he was not all ‘baby-like’. He had a rather… well, better not say he was still so young it seemed to her. First impressions were sometimes hard to break- even if his first one she perceived was that of an ‘innocent’ boy and wolf. Though, the sudden curse and expression on his face almost made her laugh, but she stopped it before it reached past her lips. Instead, she pressed them together as he began to crouch.
She listened, her teeth moving to nibble and bite down on her bottom lip as he spoke. So not good at this point- she had not gotten the reaction she wanted though she could not say she was not expecting it from him. She stepped back from the cage as he continued to talk and glad she had moved back because once he was done, his wolf form collided into the bars. It would not get him anywhere and he was hurting himself. She shook her head, waiting till his howling stopped and moving her hands to shoo others gathering around the cage to move away.
Once she felt he had settled down to at least make his ears twitch towards her voice, she whistled lowly before speaking. ”What is wrong with kindness? Why do you not let them show you kindness? You bring it upon yourself to get shackled and caged by behaving like this.” At ‘this’ she motioned her hands toward him and the cage. Society was what it was and he needed to learn that by acting foolish and violent only brought this situation upon himself- of course that was probably only half the reason he was here, but oh well. Perhaps talking to him would get the best response.
She sighed before stepping closer. ”Hey… I bet there is something inside of you that will do anything to at least taste a bit of freedom, so why not try or act to be nice and keep it that way for a good while?” For now, she felt like she had gotten something good out there that he could look over and ask himself about. ”I can get you out of here, but you need to trust me and I need something to know that I can trust you.” Rather or not this would work, or if it would be an attempted fail, at least she tried and he could think about it.

It took until his throat was sore until he finally stopped howling and attacking the bars which held him at bay from the rest of the world. Even when he had stopped, he took up pacing in the cramped space, tail thrashing with the residue of his outburst. It felt like relief to lash out, but it would have been so much better if he could have gotten his teeth through something fleshy and very much alive. I'll get them someday, I will get them someday. If I die stuck in this cage, I'll still get them somehow someway. Didn't their mothers ever tell them not to play with dangerous things? Ugh, soon, soon they'll see just how dangerous I am. Child and adult alike, I don't care which so long as its one of them. I had a chance at a good life even after mother locked me away, just because I turned into a wolf they stopped being nice. No, I don't care for their smiles, I only want their screams of agony. ALL OF THEM! Hearing the woman speak, he pressed his nose between the bars, lips high above his gums, drool hanging down from his jaws. After a minute of concentrating, his throat had morphed enough to dignify her with an answer. "I am no pet." His mouth struggled to form the words, he sounded every bit like a wolf trying to talk. "I don't sit for a bone, and neither do I enjoy being used. If all those slaves." He jerked his nose at the slaves who obeyed without struggling or trying to bite someones head off "Did as I did, there would be no slavery." He crouched, this time his ears were allowed to lay back against his head, and his tail lay poised against the crouch. "Why should I listen to you? Just because its you who wants to use me." He withdrew from the bars, and regained his step in pacing back and forth, snarling epithets that became increasingly incoherent as his throat relaxed back into its natural position. So many had faced him with the intention of taking him away peacefully, this was just another drop in the ocean. And he hated salt water.

The sudden nose between the bars and the seeming beginning of a snarl had her leaning back a bit. He spoke. She blinked. What? Carefully, she studied him until the piece of vocals got sorted through. She blinked again in an almost astonished matter. ”They were going to keep you and treat you as a pet?” she asked, her voice rising. ’Disgusting’ she thought, her nose scrunched up. She glanced back when he motioned towards the others. She frowned and turned back towards him. He of course was right and she suspected he knew this so she did not even bother to boost his ego.
Almost groaning, she closed her eyes and slumped over in mock defeat, wondering if she should even keep talking to him. His ears were against his head and she bit her lip. ”Why do you have to be so damn frustrating?” she asked him rather harshly, glaring into those yellow eyes of his. A growl of her own formed in her throat as she clenched her teeth together and closed her eyes. Deep breathing… one… two… three… sighing she opened her eyes back up and relaxed, spreading her arms wide.
She gazed right towards him. ”Why do you think I want to use you of all people? Just how do you think I could use you because I have no freakin’ clue.” Taking her arms down she stepped towards the cage and kept eye contact with him, which was rather hard considering he was pacing. She did not know why, but she stepped closer to the bars and held out her hand again just right at the space between the bars. Her had was shaking as she held it there and moved it forward, hoping he would take interest in it and as to why she was still willing to reach out to him when he had done nothing but be difficult toward her.

Cursico paused in his step, seemed to consider for a moment before rearing upon his hind legs, whereupon he found himself changed back to human for what was probably the fourth time, he hadn't been counting. "A question answered with a question, how frustrating." He mocked, purposely using her choice of words for him. Sighing like a frustrated teacher, Cursico crossed his arms over his chest, dark green eyes staring at Kayla. He held up his index finger, palm facing outwards. "One, as a forced butler of some kind. Two" He lifted another finger, "A guard for your house, cause I will kill whatever I can whether or not it helps you its all the same. Three" A third finger, "A goddamned dog to go for walkies with. Lets see... is there a four?" He wriggled his fingers thoughtfully, "A showcase-model." He added on, then dropping his almost-full hand and puffing his cheeks up in exasperation. "Just use your imagination, Hm? Your kind is good at inventing new ways for people to live." Why is she getting close? Doesn't she value her life? Could this girl really believe I don't want her dead? Any of these people around could set me free if I set my mind to acting 'nicely' without puking my guts all over the floor. Hm... or... C'mon, she's trying so hard she has to be softer than a marshmellow. I'm sure I could escape so easily once she trusts me... Cursico shuddered, not liking his thoughts, not one bit. "Nevermind, why do you want to help me? No one else does." He sat on the ground, eyes still fixed on Kayla. "Because no one else cares, I'm right to assume neither do you. Now why are you pretending?" Unlike before when he had acted nice, he was being vicious while also giving her shots at what should be "Emotional trauma stemming from the words". He couldn't care less what Kayla's motives were, or how good her heart was, but it would be good if he could convince her that slavery had really hurt him deep down. (Which it had, in that elusive subconscious of his, just too deep for it to come out so easily and quickly. Let alone with him allowing potentially snivelling words to come out whole-heartedly from between his teeth.)

Admitting to herself that she did feel guilty by asking him questions in return instead of direct answers was interesting. She watched carefully as he sighed and crossed his arms. Oh boy. Here was that tirade coming in now. She groaned as he started counting off on his fingers, she understood now. Though, she could not help it and laughed at the showcase-model idea and shook her head. ”How stupid.” Of course, that was in reference to the whole showcase stuff and everything. However, she only looked up at him when he seemed to be done with his tirade.
A frown though crossed her lips as he spoke again and she pursed them together as he sat. Sitting seemed like a good idea, but instead she shifted her weight. Again he spoke and the frown was still in place. ”Why do you not want help?” She waited a bit, before speaking again. ”My name is Kayla and even though there might be other Kayla’s out there, it does not mean that we are the same- in fact, we’re not.” Chew on that now, will ‘ya. Why was it so hard for him to believe this. What a stupid question. He was probably traumatized growing up with being a Gifted and all. Her race is what caused this entire idiotic power-over-another-and-rule-them thing.
Ouch. Now his accusation of her pretending did hurt. ”How then, can I prove to you that I’m not in fact ‘pretending’?” Well, it might have been a stupid thing to ask and throw out here, but it couldn’t hurt much- right? Sighing, she crossed her arms in front of her torso again, getting hungry. It had been a while though since she last ate. ”Look, I know that it must be a hard life living as a Gifted, but there are –however many few- good humans out there” she all but said softly under her breath, wondering if he would catch it. Her gaze had moved to the ground since then, so she did not see any reaction from him.

((Ooc: *Cries* I lost my post, I was on the last sentence and the Goddamn internet broke on me. OH WHY!? WHYYY!?)) Cursico rolled his eyes, having to stop himself from saying what he wanted to say, which would probably stretch Kayla the one and only to her limit and maybe beyond. So, instead of saying something like 'You can show me you're not pretending by displaying your gift.' He mulled over his other choices, and quickly came up with: "You can't show you're not pretending. All of you are the same, wanting something. Even now you want this 'trust' Well now, thats asking for something. But then what afterwards? Would you smile sweetly and let me go, Hm?" Even though she wasn't looking at him, he glared. Then another idea popped up in his head, and before thinking it through on how it corresponded with his plans, the words slipped out on a smoothly mocking voice: "Do you not look at me because you're ashamed of yourself? Or do you want to avoid all this talk and get a slave who doesn't challenge your twisted ideals, so you can say 'Yes good slave, thats what I want. You get to have some soup tonight'?" He quoted back from the fat lady who had loved to hug him and put him in dresses. If he saw her again now that he was older, he would do his best to make sure she suffered like he had. Certainly when he was younger he was easier to handle. What do I care if her intentions are good at heart or not? In the end I'm still a slave, and she's still one of the species I hate the most. I wonder if she'll try stroking me now. Or more importantly, I wonder if I could handle not killing her until I'm not surrounded by slavers who would simply recapture me. God I hate tranquiliser guns, I never feel right for hours afterwards. I'd rather they used a tazer, their effects only last a few minutes. "If you were not what you are, you would see exactly what I'm saying. You think if we exchange blood you'll then see? Or maybe you have to be at the bottom of the pile since fucking birth, even to your own Mother!" Cursico was surprised to find he shivered at the mention of Corsica, but he wiped it aside and thought nothing more of it. All he wanted was the right reaction from Kayla to get him out and back in the game of seeing how many people he could kill in one go.
